1. Material selection and preparation: Food-grade plastic pellets, such as polypropylene (PP), are selected for their durability, non-toxic properties, and resistance to heat. The pellets are dried to remove moisture, which can cause defects in the final product.
2. Heating and melting: The plastic pellets are fed into a hopper, where they are moved by a rotating screw through a heated barrel. The heat and friction melt the plastic into a viscous, molten liquid.
3. Injection: The injection unit plunges forward, injecting the molten plastic into the clamped mold cavity under high pressure. This pressure ensures the plastic fills every detail of the mold.
4. Cooling: Once the mold is full, it is held shut by a powerful clamping unit while a cooling system of water channels solidifies the plastic. This is often the longest step in the molding cycle.
5. Ejection: The mold opens, and ejector pins push the finished plastic part out of the mold cavity. The inner colander and outer bowl are molded as two separate, identical parts that will be sold as a single "2-in-1" set.
6. Trimming: Excess plastic, known as "flash," that may have squeezed between the mold halves is removed. Any remaining plastic from the injection point, called a "sprue," is also trimmed.
7. Inspection: Each colander and bowl is inspected for defects such as warping, uneven thickness, or incomplete molding.
8. Final assembly: The separate colander and bowl are stacked, one nesting neatly inside the other, and prepared for packaging.
